I don’t think I am capable of being one of the millions of overprotective parents in the United States.
Of course the sports mom might disagree, knowing that the last thing I would do is put my kid in harms way of any kind. I was thinking about all the times when I would tell my kid to NOT put his fingers in the blender when it was plugged in or to never stand to close to a bonfire because he could accidentally trip and fall in with the logs.
I do like to have fun with my kids though. I even remember encouraging my son to destroy things Read more…

Several of my Facebook friends and relatives shared this blog post on my Wall. I just had to read it, and share it with any of the readers who actually visit my blog.
The article “The disease known as perfection” comes from a blog titled “Single Dad and Laughing” written by a father, Dan with input from his son, Noah. Danoah is the mash-up nickname for the blog authors. I just started reading their blog, and it’s pretty darn good. They know how to keep it real, and share their life with readers. I admire that. Birdhouse in Your Soul by the band “They Might Be Giants” is one of my all time favorite sings. I almost forgot about this song, until a recent episode of Showtime’s Weeds reminded me of how cool it is.
I remember jammin out the FLOOD album back in the early 90′s, and putting this song on almost every mix tape I made for that era. From Wikipedia I learned that Birdhouse it “tells the story, in very abstract terms, of a nightlight with the appearance of a blue canary, from the point of view of the nightlight itself.”
It’s definitely a happy song with a positive psychological message. As the song fades, the line “while you’re at it, keep the nightlight on inside the birdhouse in your soul” echoes the chorus, essentially telling the listener to keep all the good things that provide light in their soul protected.
It’s a great tune for your kids to jam out with, and provides a parent the opportunity to read the lyrics with their kids, and help them find that “Happy Place.”

While some Sportsdaddy’s take their sons hunting, I prefer taking my kid to live sporting events.
This last weekend (Oct 1-3, 2010) was a great weekend of sports for my son and I. First off, we started out with Minnesota’s version of Friday Night Lights. Read on…

My wife and kids recently returned home from a 7-day vacation. I will never forget the welcome home embrace that my little 2-year old girl gave me. It was a 10 minute snuggle into my neck, and while she burrowed in, I felt her truly missing me for that entire week.
These feelings are human, and real. I live for moments like this with loved ones. It is a human need as urgent as life itself.
I guarantee that you will cry (if you are human) within the first minute of this video. To the soldiers that are coming home, I salute you, and hope that your days back in the states are peaceful, loving and as compassionate as a welcome home hug from a loved one.
