Twins Song: Don’t Call Them Twinkies 0

Posted on December 06, 2010 by Marcus "Mookie" Anderson

I don’t how I missed this! Earlier this season, after the Twins clinched, a new song featuring the Hold Steady’s Craig Finn, along with a group called the Baseball Project released a song for the Minnesota Twins. The Baseball Project’s new Twins song, “Don’t Call them Twinkies” is available on iTunes.I just bought it, and it’s pretty cool. It capture’s the spirit of being a Twins junkie fan.

Everything from 1965 to Kirby Puckett, and Ron Gant clearly being out when Kent Hrbek tagged him in the 1991 World Series is covered, so download it and enjoy. As Linda Pitmon, the drummer for The Baseball Project, notes, the song features Finn’s specialty of “name-checking no less than eight Minnesota cities, two neighborhoods, two streets, nine Twins players and two (managers) in just over four minutes.” Check out some sample lyrics below: Read on…

Pants on the Ground & on the Vikes Sidelines in Big Easy 1

Posted on January 24, 2010 by Marcus "Mookie" Anderson

My brother Just heard on the radio that the Vikes flew the ‘pants on the ground’ dude, General Larry Platt, to New Orleans and he will be on the Vikes sideline.

Also from OJ when hearing the news:
Saints on the ground, Saints on the ground, looking like fools cause the Vikes put ‘em down!!! Turf in your mouth helmet turned sideways thinking you could rule that looking like a fool. Walking around town with your heads hung down, WHO DAT?!?!?! Saints on the ground, Saints on the ground looking like a fool cause the VIKES PUT EM DOWN!

From American Idol Website:

General Larry Platt, a 62-year-old veteran from Georgia, has a song called Pants on the Ground (for people who won’t pull their pants up). He’s clearly out of the show’s age range, but the producers don’t want us to miss this. (And they shouldn’t. It turns out the General has a fascinating history that goes deep into the civil-rights movement.)

He’s hysterical, and Simon says, “I have a horrible feeling that song could be a hit.”

Vikings & Prince Finally Connect for Song 1

Posted on January 23, 2010 by Marcus "Mookie" Anderson

The Vikings & Prince have finally inspired each other and have connected for song. The critics aren’t exactly calling it a touchdown, railing on it and saying it sucks etc. After listening to the snippets on Fox 9 it has grown on me. First off, I like the theme; a New Orleans Saints Funeral? One can see in the ltyrics that Prince is confident in his faith for the Vikings in the NFC Championship game, almost as much as he is in his faith in God. It’s a deep song. There is more to it. The music is drones on like the beginning of a traditional “Big Easy” funeral march to the marshes. Not everyone in Vikings or NFL circles are used to “deep meaning” in music, so I understand their initial criticism.

The music is not Purple Rain mainstream, that is what one would expect from the Vikings most decorated musical fan. But this guy is entrenched in musical genius with Hall of Fame talent, so I trust this is the first of maybe 2 or 3 versions of the Vikings theme music. As Prince fans know, when the royal one is inspired, he gets on a roll and can make an entire album in one night. I am sure their are more rockn out versions to follow. They might just be sittin in the Vault waiting to debut when the Vikings finally shine up the Lombardi trophy with their ex-Packer quarterback in Miami. We just have to wait to see if the team delivers with 2 more wins….

Prince’s Purple and Gold Lyrics

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won’t bow down
this time we won’t b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar

that’s what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold

r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history – that’s y we must b
4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings’ horn
in the name of the purple and gold

CHORUS
