Minnesota Vikings 1971 F-150 Purple People EaterA few years ago, I was contacted by a fellow Minnesota Vikings fan who thought he had discovered a team relic as precious as the Kensington Runestones.

The gentleman’s name was Ed from North Branch, Minnesota. He contacted me via email on the old Vikingstailgate.com website to let me know about a really cool story he uncovered after he acquired a purple Ford-150 from a junkyard.

At the time I was contacted in October of 2007, Ed and his wife had just purchased the truck, and were looking for clues as that would help determine it’s value.

On June 28, 1997 I was in a Sports bar in Boston, Massachusetts, cheering for Evander Holyfield to beat Mike Tyson. I think I was the only one in the place doing so, as everyone there seemed to be hoping for Tyson to return to greatness.

At the time, Holyfield was the new king of the boxing world, having already knocked Iron Mike out cold in their previous bout. This did not sit will with Tyson. Last year at Super Bowl time I was a guest blogger for the movie review site Flixchatter. This year, instead of ranking my all time favorite football and other sports movies, I give you a YouTube montage.

On this day in sports history: Raging Bull Pummeled in Fix? 1

On this day in boxing history,  Jake LaMotta aka, the Raging Bull, aka Robert Di Niro was knocked out in four rounds by a punk named Billy Fox.  Suspecting the fight was fixed (and it was, apparently,  who really knows if boxing is legit anyway?) the NY State Commission held all the purses for the fight and kicked LaMotta out of the sport for a time.

The biggest trade in Vikings history happened on this day, TODAY!  The New England Patriots and Vikings have finalized a trade to bring controversial star receiver Randy Moss back to Minnesota. The team expects Moss to be present at Thursday’s scheduled practice.
